Grant McCarthy (CPA, Registered Tax Agent)

Graduated at QUT (Gardens Point) with a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) degree in 1989.

Grant has over 25 years experience in Public Practice – starting as a Graduate Accountant in 1990 and progressively taking on more responsibility with experience.

Grant acquired the practice where he was an employee on 1st July 1999 (formerly Arch Roggeveen & Associates).

Interests outside of work include tennis, maintaining his acreage property and spending time with his wife and three children.

Accounting Staff

Chris Receveur

Chris graduated in Accounting via the NZ Society of Accountants Accounting Graduation Programme.

Chris worked in the Audit Department of Touche Ross (now Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu) in New Zealand rising to Audit Manager – involved in audits of both listed and unlisted companies.

Chris has over 35 years experience in audit and taxation work both in Australia & New Zealand.

Chris was formerly a Partner in a Brisbane accounting firm in the early 90s. He has been with McCarthy & Co for over 20 years

Julie M

Graduated at QUT (Gardens Point) with a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) degree.  Julie studied with Grant.

Julie spent a number of years at a Big 6 accountancy firm, assisting a broad range of clients on complex taxation matters. 

A love of travel and a desire for adventure led Julie to London, where she was a business analyst – responsible for developing and implementing systems at a number of global investment banks.  

Julie has been with McCarthy & Co over 2 years.


Mitchell is an undergraduate accountant who has recently joined us to get practical experience in Public Practice Accounting. 

He is studying part-time for his Accounting Degree at QUT in the City. 

Outside of work and study Mitchell enjoys rugby and going to the gym.

Administration Staff


Merle has been with the business (and its various owners) since 1986. Merle is an extremely dedicated and loyal member of the business. Merle has deep knowledge of business and client matters and is a highly valued staff member.


Maria has joined the Practice in mid-2018 with extensive experience in Public Practice and customer service.  Maria has good trouble-shooting and people skills. Outside of work Maria enjoys camping, travelling and spending time with her family.

Julie H 

Julie has been with the business on a part-time basis since the beginning of 2018.  She has known Grant for a long time as she is his younger sister. 

Julie provides office administration support for both Merle and Maria. Outside of work Julie spends time with her husband and her two young boys.


Jo has helped the Practice firstly by being an initial contact for the operations at the Wynnum office and then subsequently by offering extra support for Merle and Maria at Springwood. She has worked with us since 2016.

Jo is a passionate animal lover and she owns a business both training and caring for dogs. 


Hannah provides administrative support services on a casual basis to help the Practice.
